As to the irredicibility of mentality to physical reality I sympathize thoroughly. But this is only the bare beginning of a unified theory of mind and matter. I believe this is the hardest problem concerning nature, not likely to be solved for many centuries. At present my favorite philosopher-scientist on this question is Whitehead, in his books "Adventures of Ideas" and "Process and Reality". He is inspiring, but he is just beginning.
